Current U.S. Women's Ski Jumping team members posing for a vintage photograph

…that women’s ski jumping will be an official event for the first time at the 2014 Winter Olympics?  Because I did not.  Granted this is not new news but I just read it today so it’s news to me.  Men’s ski jumping was a Winter Olympic original event (at the first Winter Games in…1924) but for some reason (the IOC members are weirdos) the women weren’t allowed to jump until the decision was made in April.

I personally think ski jumping is an underrated event to watch.  Jumpers hit the lip at 50-60 mph and soar for hundreds of feet before landing.  It’s pretty insane when you see how far they launch…but that’s the problem, you never see how far they go because the camera shot is always zoomed in on the skier so you can see their form.  I don’t know anything about the form of a ski jumper and I don’t want to know anything about the form of a ski jumper.  I want to see them launch.  Hey maybe NBC or whatever station gobbled up the Olympic television rights will have a few different camera angles for 2014.  Only one way to find out.
